Burn and Plastic surgery
The Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery in West China Hospital was initially founded in 1963. The diagnosis and treatment involve all directions of the field of burn and plastic surgery, especially the reconstruction of external genitalia, ear, breast, fingers and medical aesthetic surgery, which enjoys a highly academic and medical reputation in China. With 40 years’ development, the department has evolved into a burn and plastic surgery center, congregating medicine, teaching and research in union with great talents, advanced equipment and multidisciplinary cooperation advantages. It is authorized to confer doctoral and master degrees of burn and plastic surgery. A group of burn and plastic surgery experts directed by Professor Cen Ying are trying to keep exploring and forging ahead. They have made tremendous breakthroughs in minimally invasive surgery and organ reconstruction. The department specializes in reconstruction of superficial organ, repairs of malformation induced by trauma, lymphatic surgery, functional reconstruction for face and hand, and burn treatment, etc. Of which, the reconstruction of the perineum and genital, scar prevention and minimally invasive surgery in particular, have reached the highest academic and medical level in China and kept up with the international advanced level. Besides, the department got Sichuan Province Technology Advanced Second Awards twice.
There are currently 5 professors and associated professors, 1 doctoral supervisor, 1 master supervisor, 4 attending doctors in the department, and over 90 percent of whom achieved master’s degrees or higher. They have participated in compiling "Emergency Handbook", "Modern Emergency Medicine", "Angel in the World", "Chinese Journal of Surgery", "Chinese Journal of Trauma", " Chinese Journal of Burns ", " Chinese Journal of Reparative and Reconstructive Surgery ", " Chinese Journal of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery", " West China Medical Journal ", " Medical Journal of West China ", " Sichuan Medical Journal " and " Journal of Sichuan University " etc. In the past five years, more than 200 papers have been published in both domestic and international medicine periodicals, and two of them are included by SCI.
The Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery in West China Hospital is located in the first floor of the second inpatient building. There are various wards, nearly 50 beds and an operating room, providing a convenient and elegant medical environment, which can meet the needs of all ranks. Observing the future, the department is promising and full of opportunity.
